As the owner (in some cases former owner) of all of these, my vote would be
for the 35-70 and 75-150 pair. I think they're more versatile and, more
importantly to me, they're lighter. Hey, I own the 35-80/2.8 and still use
the 35-70/3.5-4.5 a lot more.
My 'small kit' is usually:

75-150/4
90/2 Macro
