Strangest thing. My convertable RX-7 used to get the
best gas mileage when I was really hoofing it. It
would do about 25mpg at 80mph. At legal speed it
would drop down to 21mpg and around town? Not quite
so good--of course I never lolligagged around in it.
It was fun getting rubber in the first three gears and
I never hesitated to get back to the speed limit from
stoplights.
I think I went through a set of brake pads in under
5000 miles. Tires? They didn't wear too well either,
but cornering at the adhesion limit does challenge the
longevity of the rubber compound. <g>
Went from that to a Chevy Suburban. Snooze. My
brother just got a brand new Miata with upgraded
suspension and HP tweeks. It's amazing what an
additional 50hp does to that thing. Any drool will
whip past your ear.
