To amplify on Tom's (and other's) suggestion: do NOT use alkalines in place of
"silver 357s" (or SR44s). Alkalines put out the same voltage, but have a
higher internal resistance, and therefore cannot pump out the momentary-peak
microamperes needed to reliably operate the electromagnet attached to the
shutter curtain. SR44s/357s are the batteries of choice for OM-2s and up.
Accept No Substitutes.
