That sounds like a light leak at the hinge side of the film door. New seals
may be necessary, especially if they've never been replaced. Check to see
whether any bits of debris like small flakes of film are stuck in the hinge
area - that can cause the hinge to bulge just enough to make the light leak
worse.
In a pinch you can get by for a while by placing a strip of black tape over
the hinge or using the camera inside a neverready case.
Replacing light seals is pretty easy - John Hermanson sells kits for that.
Or you can send the camera off to him if tinkering doesn't sound like fun.

If you look at the picture landscape wise the bands go
from the bottom to the top of the picture. At the top
and bottom edges the bands narrow somewhat. The bands
are evenly spaced across the picture.
An examination of the negative shows these same bands,
which I believe line up with the sproket holes.
