The best buy in a tall sturdy tripod is probably a Bogen/Manfrotto. I'm
definitely getting tired of scrunching down to accomodate my shorter
tripods.
An alternative is a good old fashioned wood tripod, not a bad choice for a
backyard or studio 'pod. I keep hearing folks claim to have found one for
$15 at a yard sale. I've never found any worthwhile camera gear at a yard
sale.
Regarding a good all-purpose lens, keep your eyes peeled for the mythical
Zuiko 21-300/2.0 1:1 macro focusing zoom. Any price under five digits
should be considered a bargain.
