I have been using the Canon 2700 for a while now. I find it more than adequate for my needs - I can easily get excellent quality prints up to A3 size from transparencies and negatives. All my ADTL and TOPE entries were produced using it. If the 2710 is "vastly" better, it should be " vastly" worth getting.
