I've seen a lot of XAs with shattered sprocket gears (the slot on the gear
which engages the sprocket just crumbles)which may produce the problem you
describe. Try loading and wind a dummy roll through the camera. Repair
based on availability of used gears (part long discontinued).

Subject: [OM] problem loading film in olympus xa
| sorry to intrude on valuable bandwidth...
|
| recently i got an olympus xa...which appears to be in excellent working
| order...
| no instruction manual came with it...
|
| my film loading technique is clumsy at best...i can not get the narrow
| film end to stay firmly in place on the winder side...and as i advance
| the film it appears after opening the back to have very loosely
| collected a bit...but prehaps not enough for a picture...i assume i can
| continue with picture taking but am not sure i'll get snugly wound film
| till half-way into the roll or more...?
|
| in short, (no pun intended) the teeth (or is it only one tooth) appear
| to be skipping holes in the film as i advance the little winder on the
| upper right...
|
| this is frustrating...and i haven't a clue how to solve it...
|
| any tips would be appreciated...thanks!
|
| vty,

|
| also looking for a tiny hard shell case to use for stowing the little
| camera while traveling...advice?
