Thanks, David. No, I'm not sure it's stainless steel but think it
probably is. This contact strip has not been affected by all the
corrosion that was going on elsewhere.

I'm going to first try an acid flux and high temperature as suggested by
John H. and others. I can't do that just yet since I discovered that my
25 year old high power Weller soldering gun doesn't work anymore.
Probably since the last time I dropped it and taped up the case :-).
Hope to buy another one this weekend.

If that doesn't work I'll go on a quest for some spring brass and
fabricate another contact.

Just a thought?

what about mechanical fix? (drill and tap, or nut and bolt?)..

There is a resistance to all the chemical gunk type stuff.

You can solder some stainless steels, depending on the 'quality'. Are u
sure
its stainless steel?, is it magnetic?.......

Seriously though a better fix would be to fabricate a new one out of
tensile
brass (u can get this from any aeromodellers store). In the past I made
something similar for a flashgun (one that uses PF60 bulbs), out of the
terminal posts from a 1296 battery.

Good luck with the project....

David
