My response to the alleged rarity is "Male Bovine Feces." The 35/2.8 shift
is *not* rare, just not common. "Rare" is a 40/2 pancake or an 8/2.8
fisheye. In the U.S. I see them come up for sale regularly. Right now KEH
has three in condition worth buying (EX or EX+) and a fourth in "bargain"
condition (the pricing looks good on them too, albeit without cases). I
would be sorely tempted to rub his nose in the current KEH listings. eBay
has (or had) at least one if not two or three within the past week or so,
some which may be active auctions right now. Yes, that's more than normal,
but knowing where to look on the web, you can usually find at least one or
two being offered for sale nearly all the time. I wouldn't call that rare.

Your camera salesman was hoping "'lympus lust" for the lens would make you
sell your soul for it. Then again, with the deal he offered you, maybe it
is a rare lens *_for_him_and_his_store_* along with any other OM lens
besides a 50/1.8 "body cap." He wouldn't get too many trade-ins if the
deal he offered you represents his normal trading practices. Yes, dealers
need to buy low and sell high to stay in business, but there are limits to
how low and how high.
