The floating mechanism tends to be toards the back of the lens,
so it might affect the diameter there, but not (I would expect)
at the front.

Mine doesn't, and it dates from 1992. The OM System brochure
that I have (from around 1989) flags those lenses which have
"close-up aberation correction mechanism" and the 85/2 isn't
one of them.
On the 28/2 you can see the floating element in operation as
it rotates with the focusing ring while the rest of the elements
stay fixed relative to the mount.
