Just getting into scanning some slides. At what resolution do most of you
who do this scan them? Thanks.
That depends on what you want to do. If you have only one purpose,
scan to the needs of that purpose. If you only make 3x5 prints on a
consumer ink-jet, scanning at more than about 1200 spi just wastes
space and time.
However, if you are archiving, or have multiple purposes, use the
native resolution of the scanner, which is generally the highest
"optical" resolution, which is the lower of two numbers if there is
more than one specified. For example, a "600x1200 dpi" scanner is
really a 600 dpi scanner plus a couple lines of code to do mechanical
interpolation and a lot of marketing gall.
