Olaf,
Thanks for giving us "the rest of the story" on this one. At least it's a
REAL OM-1 and not some Russian after-market fake. Now that one is out on
the open market, we will need to look out for the fakes. I guess the
certificate of authenticity is a prime way to guarantee that it's
"real". The best way would be to have the list of the 25 serial
numbers. Any sources for those?

Hi guys,
As promised, I checked the golden OM-1 story with Jaap. Here's what he had
to say about it:
"
The golden OM-1 was a special 20-year anniversary edition of the OM-1. It
was distributed by Olympus Netherlands in 1992 and only 25 have ever been
made. 24 of these cameras came with a special golden version of the 50/1.8
lens, and they all went to special dealers and relation of Olympus as a
relation-gift. The 25th one was even more special than the other ones, in
that it has a golden version of the 50/1.4 lens. This camera was the main
price of a contest in a Dutch magazine called Panorama. Jaap initially
only was given one of the "normal" golden OM-1s + a golden 50/1.8. The guy
who won the Panorama contest lateron sold the camera to an Olympus
collector in Hoogeveen. Last year Jaap bought the entire collection of
this guy. Jaap then had 2 of the 25 golden OM-1s and decided to sell one
of them to "Foto Henny Hoogeveen". Jaap kept the 50/1.4 lens, and he kept
his own body (as it was in a nicer shape). These special golden OM-1s all
came in a normal box, but with a certificate of authenticity from Olympus
Netherlands. The camera Jaap sold to "Foto Henny Hoogeveen" does not have
the certificate anymore though.
"
Also, I performed some further sleuthing by trying out the URL
www.fotohennyhoogeveen.nl and sure enough there it was! Asking price on
the site is Hfl 8000,- (some $3400), so I guess I have a rough idea of
what the reserve price in the e-Bay auction will be at (my guess: $3000).
Cheers!
Olafo
