I do not think this is a very good idea. I have a proper spanner wrench
and can say that the torque with which the retaining ring of even a filter
is tightened to is such that it is almost certain it will bend and slip.
If one wants to try any technique other than the proper tool I would
suggest practicing on the retaining ring of a filter first rather than a
lens.
