My watch never needs batteries, It's solar powered, but it doesn't take
photos either.

I think John was referring to the resources at his disposal in terms of
being able to fix and maintain cameras, not what the current state of the
art in electronics is capable of.

Mine draws 7 microamps when asleep. I personally do not consider 7
millionths of an amp a 'lot of current'
I got just over a year out of my last set of batteries. I do not consider
that excessive.
You want high current draw, try my DAT walkman, it will flatten a set of 4
NiCads in about half an hour. Thats probably more energy than my 4Ti will
use in it's entire lifetime. It's all relative. Compared to the current
draw of the modern wonderbricks the 4Ti runs on the electrical equivalent
of the smell of an oily rag.
