Boris,
I have my own theories about why there are relatively few professional
photogs using Olympus these days.
Firstly, *press* photogs (papparazzi - did I spell that right?) and the
gear they use. Many of these professionals feel it necessary to use
intimidating photo equipment: a camera that is big, black, ugly,
menacing and sounds like some sort of futuristic automatic weapon each
time the shutter and motor-drive are operated <G>. Olympus doesn't
match up to that requirement ... but at least one of its rivals does!
;-)
Secondly, other types of professional photog: I am sure that Olympus
used to have its fair share of professional users in its heyday (1970s
& '80s), at least in proportion to its share of the SLR market (which
was never as great as N*k*n or C*n*n). However, cameras used for
professional purposes take a beating and, while OMs are robust, like
any other brand they do wear out eventually. A widespread, readily
available supply of replacement products and parts is essential for a
professional, who cannot afford to be without the tools of trade
wherever he/she might happen to be working at the time something fails.
IMHO, as Oly's presence in the SLR market declined, so unfortunately
did the ranks of its professional clientele :-(
Regards,
Ray
