In one of the sites it stated that Maitani was an amateur photographer,

between a professional photographer versus an amateur photographer? (other
than obvious)
Could Maitani qualify as a Pro with his credentials?
The meanings of the words 'professional' and 'amateur' have been corrupted.
'Professional' is merely someone who does something for money. 'Amateur' is
someone who does it for love. Lately 'amateur' has received somewhat of a
negative connotation. 'Amateurish', for example, means of low quality.
Remember the Olympics were created for amateurs and mere professionals were
banned.
