I was wondering about a Liquid Crystal Display used as a replacement
for the mechanical diaphram in lenses? My idea is that the lens would
have a LCD array of concentric circles embedded in a transparent lens
element, each set of circles turned off or on electrically to achieve
various F stops. When the circles were on, they would block light
transmission, off would allow it. The circuIar array would still obtain
the depth of field effects of a mechanical diaphram. I did a patent
search but turned up nothing so far. For you patent-savvy people, I
searched in class 359, subclasses 738, 739, and 740.
Be seeing you.
