I just picked up a rather odd piece of OM(?) macro gear. Someone
started with a Pentax Auto Bellows A, removed the Pentax mounts,
then put half of a Olympus 7mm extension tube on each end, and
presto! an Olympus mount non-auto bellows. In addition, he also
machined a very nice adjustable flash mount using an Olympus TTL
remote shoe thingy.
But maybe the most unusual thing about it is the 100mm/f4 Leitz
Macro-Elmar lens on the front of it. Somehow, I doubt these were
ever made with OM mounts, so he must've converted that too. The
lens/bellows combination works very well. At minimum extension,
the lens is focused on infinity, and at maximum extension, it's
focused on a point about 4 inches away, with field about 1 inch
wide.
Anyway, here are my questions. First, does anyone know anything
about this lens? How does it compare with the Zuiko macros?
Also, how does one meter with a contraption like this? I don't
have the rest of the hardware to use the remote flash mount, so
I'll probably just try some ambient light shots with my OM-1n. I
would guess it would be like metering with just a non-auto
extension tube, but how do you do that? What f/stop does the
camera think it's set to with one of these on it?
Also, I'd like to know what one of these things is worth. I paid
about $300(US) for it. Did I get a bad deal? Personally, I don't
think so. Maybe it wasn't a steal, but seems ok to me. The other
Zuikos they had were a bit overpriced, IMHO, with a 50/1.2 for
$400, and a 100/2.8 for $230. First time I'd seen either of those,
and both look very cool. Lotsa glass in the 50/1.2 and the 100/2.8
is tiny!!
Thanks,
Mark Marr-Lyon
PS. The salesperson said that this was the last item of one
person's *large* collection that they had. The collection
originally included 22 OM bodies, from 10's to 4Ti's, and about
40 lenses, up to 400mm. Remind you of anyone we know? :) :)
