Jim and other interested parties:
George Lepp has a few pages in his "Beyond the Basics" on the use of long
lenses for landscapes. He emphasizes picking out the individual elements in a
landscape that get your attention vs. trying to include too much with a
wide-angle lens and losing it all. Compression of depth is also possible only
with telephotos (such as photographing multiple ridges of mountaintops and
bringing them closer together).
