The Dallas KEH seemed to me an unusual store, in that their line was pretty
specialized. The first time I went there a few years ago, I also wanted to
buy a roll of film. "Sorry, we don't sell film here." Ditto for darkroom
chemicals and paper, and no photo processing, either. Also, even for the new
cameras, they did not have much factory support, I don't think. The first
time I asked if I could keep a particular camera brochure on the Hassy system
was the last time I asked for ANY brochure. Turned out it was the only one
they had(!) and they needed to be able to show it to other customers. (And
they still had one for the Mamiya TLR system, too!) Keeps down the overhead,
but for visiting a hard-core camera equipment dealer w/ new cameras, it was a
first for me! (YMMV, as always.) I don't know what're considered the
high-markup items in photo sales, but if they were making essentially all of
their money on shrewd buying/selling of used items, it doesn't seem
unreasonable that they might have been gutted by eBay in this regard. Other
conclusions? (Other than that I've gone on way too long?)
