I do not actually frame my prints but I do display some of the better ones
at home.
I mount my prints on a board without a frame. I use that plastic board
that is used for real estate signs, election campaigns and such. It is a
bit like cardboard in construction having two flat faces separated by ribs
giving it square channels between the flat panels. It is very light and
quite cheap. It can even be free if you acquire old signs which are no
longer required.
It doesn't matter what is printed on it or what colour it is because the
surface is not quite flat enough to use as-is so I cut a same sized piece
of coloured cardboard, usually either black or white, I get from an art
shop. I stick the cardboard to the board with a spray-on adhesive though
many glues would do. I then mount the print in the centre of the card
using a tissue-like double sided tape. This is a bit of a fiddle and I
would get a better result with mounting tissue but I have never come
across any and am unlikely to where I live.
If you cut the board so the internal channels are horizontal you can hang
the finished print by threading a cord through one of the channels at
the top , knot the ends together then pull the knot back inside the
channel so it is hidden.
Now having mentioned what I 'do' I will mention what I intend to do when I
have used up my current supply of materials. When I was in the printers
getting the board I noticed a display of samples of a plastic board like
material with a very nice finish available in numerous colours. I think
it must have been some sort of foamed plastic. Anyway, it looked really
slick and could be used to mount a print directly on without messing
around with card. I asked some questions but the proprietor was out so I
could not get any firm details on cost etc but I think it would be more
expensive than what I currently use but would give a nicer result with
less messing around.
