As per State Farm Insurance: If anyone uses their equipment in their
profession, a homeowner's or renter's policy won't do for insurance.
You need a so called Inland Marine policy in which all the equipment is
scheduled (itemized with serial numbers). Furthermore, if you have any
rotating inventory in which scheduling would be impractical, you need a
set amount covered under a business inventory policy. If your business
inventory is in your home, you must have the home covered by homeowner's
or renter's insurance.
While it may sound like a hassel to set up, its nothing like the hassel
when they tell you you can't get reimbursed because you lost your
personal equipment while working on a job site - and you had the wrong
insurance.
Do yourselves a favor and talk your situation over with your insurance
man or women. I just did. The cost isn't going to kill a Zuikoholic.
But a loss might :-(
