It appears that the writing is on the wall for future development in 35mm state
of the art
cameras. An associate of mine who manufactures high end under camera housings
has just come
back from some meetings in Japan. He told me that the last high end Canon EOS
has gone into
production. It was stated that Canon will no longer develop newer state of the
art film
camera bodies. All of theer R&D will be invested into digital cameras. They
of course did
not annouce that they were ending the manufacture of current models. Just that
this new
Canon is their last new 35mm body. Nikon has not announced a similar plan.
Therefore
Olympus is not alone in their decision not to introduce a new body. In fact one
might say
Olympus was just ahead of the curve.
Actually this news does make sense. The current crop of EOS 1's and Nikon F5's
has gone
about as far as the film technology needs to go. So watch for more pro digital
models at
more competitive prices. Your OM4Ti is now becoming a relic. Although a very
nice relic.
