During a weekend trip to Calgary I came across a photo dealer who has a few
brand new still in the shrink wrap MC Made in Japan 50mm / f1.8 Zuiko
lenses retailing for Cdn$39.99. That is about US$27 and UKP17. Seems that
Carson Canada [the Canadian Olympus importer] has been unloading these
lenses in to the retail market lately at next to nothing as part of some
kind of restructuring effort. I was shown the lenses in their boxes,
complete with shrink wrap, warranty papers, etc and I have no doubt
whatsoever that everything is legitimate. The photo dealer told me that
when the stock is exhausted, the importation of these lenses [and maybe
other Olympus OM items] will be changed and that the retail prices will be
much increased.
