I think the answer to your question about negotiating prices with Addorama is
yes. About 7
years ago I for some unknown reason wanted the Olympus Copy Stand and Lighting
Set. The
list price was ridiculous. I think the stand was over $630 alone and another
$200 for the
light set. Well I had found a very old copy of an add they ran back in the
late 1980's.
The stand had a price of $220 or so in that add. Well I called all over to see
if anyone
had this stand in inventory. Most of the dealers laughed. But I decided to
see if Addorama
still had it and to see if they would sell it to me at the old price. Well
they found one
in inventory. I offered $180. The salesman said he would have to check. He
checked his
Oly price book and said that it lists for over $600. He said there store had
it marked for
$230. Well we haggled and I got it for $205. When I did get it, I noticed the
original box
was beat up and the base had some minor marks. Of course the literature was
only in
Japanesse. But it's a great copy stand. No one had the lighting set. So I
had a dealer
friend order it direct from Oly and I got it a dealer book which was under
$100. Dealer
book on the stand was around $400.
So yes ... if a store has an item that's been sitting a while, they will
usually negotiate
... especially Addorama. Not much luck with B&H unless you're spending some
really major
bucks.
