While raw titanium in it's native color, after having been extruded, is a
matte, dull grey, it rarely is that color befroe being plated. The many
dippings in order to etch and "texturize" the surface to make it accept any
form or painting or plating can make it appear to be quite light. So one
can't try to identify the material based on what color it appears under
abrasions.
I fell quite certain that, given the fact that Olympus has advertised and
every camera book in the land has written that the tops and bottoms are of
titanium, someone within the last decade would surely have stepped forth
proving otherwise had it not been true. This product has been around long
enuf to have outlived any speculations regarding the veracity of the
manufacturer's claims. A simple alchemy test would certianly assuage any
doubts.
