[OM] OM-2000

====================
I think I remember a few negative comments on the OM-2000 but they weren't
very specific. For $159 it seems pretty inexpensive way to keep using OM
lenses.
====================

$159 for a camera with a mechanical shutter that syncs at speeds up to
1/125, mirror and aperture prefire, and a spotmeter is certainly a
good deal.

on the other hand, the spotmeter is very clumsy to use. it is a
match needle meter and you have to hold the shutter release button
half way down to activate the meter. The shutter speed control is
right next to the shutter button. this makes it awkward to use
the shutter speed control to center the needle, and requires using
the aperture ring. if the aperture is what you care more about
for DOF, you then have to reset the f-stop and apply the correction
to the shutter speed by reciprocity. I found this whole operation
enough of a hassle that I traded in a brand new OM-2000 with 1 roll
of film through for a used OM-4T instead of using the OM-2000 as
a second body. I like having the same controls on both bodies when
I carry two films, so having a pair of OM-4T's is more ideal when taking
into account all non-financial considerations. the whole concept of
a match needle spotmeter is a bit strange and awkward imho.

the back on the OM-2000 is made of cheap plastic and won't hold up
as long as the metal back on a used OM-1/2/3/4/4T. lastly, I doubt
that the OM-2000 focuses as accurately as, say, an OM-4T, but I
don't have any tests or data to back that up.

I recommend an OM-4T (if you need a spotmeter) or OM-1, OM-1n (if you
need a mechanical shutter) over an OM-2000 unless you need the 1/125
X sync, or really need a spotmeter in the camera and can't afford an
OM-4T.
