I am certain that the built in lens hood of the 100F2.0 is inadequate, and
plan to try alternatives--such as the metal Zeiss hood for the 85F2.8 Sonar
(also 55mm filter thread). Has anyone else done something similar? If so,
have you perceived a performance difference?
This is not to detract from the design of the 100f2.0--overall I think
Olympus made an excellent compromise (the hood provided is better than
nothing). But for fanatics whose photographic life revolves primarily around
this optic, I'm wondering how far can it be pushed.
Also, I happen to have a screw-in Pentax shade for a 135mm lens. It's overall
length is about 2 inches. One bright sunny day, I'm going to test it against
the OM metal clamp-on hood (intended for a 50mm), and a screw-in collapsible
hood (also intended for a 50mm) against this long metal hood on a 50F1.4
Zuiko MC. The long hood does not vignette on looking through the viewfinder.
Does anyone know of any custom, rectangular hoods that would work with
Olympus lenses, or even the new flower petal types--although I dislike the
later?
