Been there done that. You can get web-quality scans, just.

Not unless you find a way to get light above the slide. See

You can build one. If you've seen the triangular 35mm slide "tent"
for HP scanners, you can replicate it using white mounting board.
I had a URL somewhere for a site that demonstrates the device,
but can't find it just now.
