Olympus seems to go strictly by the book as far as their equipment use
is concerned. If they design a lens to be optimal within a certain
distance, they expect users to employ said lens ONLY at that distance.
Mounting the 20 & 38 macros directly to the body takes them out of the
Olympus recommended distance range; therefore, Olympus would never
mention that option. You should have heard the cries of distress from
customere support when I had the nerve to ask about using the 90/2
with the 1.4X TC (and 14mm auto extension tube, of course). Or when I
inquired about using the IS-3 B-300 1.7X converter on the 90/2.
"But the 90/2 is not designed for the 1.4X!" ;-)
