The originals were single coated. The multi-coating apparently began
somewhere in the high 700k S/N's and should be marked MC. A reformulated
multi-coated supposedly began with the S/N > 1 million. From what I've
seen on the testing, the middle batch of MC's are also very good; better
than the original single-coated, but not quite as good as the last
reformulation.
I just got one of the high 700k S/N's MC's in like new condition and am
waiting on some photos to come back this week, including some shot from a
tripod. Since I also have one of the older 50/1.8 SC F.Zuiko's and a
current 50/1.2 MC I will be subjectively comparing it to similar
photographs using the other two.
