======================
Anyone use a handheld spotmeter, like the Pentax Spotmeter? Is it a reasonable
subsitute for a
OM4?
======================
I use a Minolta with spot meter attachment, not as narrow (spotty) as the 4.
Also I've programmed
an HP calculator to do the meter averaging with a little twist. After taking a
reading I enter the
Zone and the f stop from the meter into the calculator. After each reading the
calculator
displays the Zone V f stop and the standard deviation. If the standard
deviation is small all is
good. If the s.d. is large I know my choice of zones is not what the film will
show; either I have
not recognized the correct zones for the readings or the scene is too contrasty
for the film to
reproduce. If somewhere in between I use the s.d. as a guide to how much to
bracket the shot.
Not real handy for candids of children, macro shoots; but works well for
landscapes and such.
Slow, but the more time spent thinking about a photograph the better the result
is for me, and
more rewarding.
And how else can you spot meter with an OM1?
