My personal opinion is that you're better off with a Sunpak 555. I think
that the T-45 is overpriced (new or used) myself.

as you say, the 555 does have some more versatile features like a
wide range of apertures for non OTF auto operation and a wide range of power
settings on manual. But, the T45 has a much wider angle of coverage (24mm
lens vs 35mm lens) with about the same Guide Number. This means the T45 is a
much more powerful flash in terms of light output. If you spread the 555
light out for the same areal coverage as the T45 the GN would approximately
halve (area ~4x, GN->23). So it comes down to features versus light output.
In general you pay for light output which is why the the T45 is often a
little more expensive used.
