Colors, yes (though it throws a constant light temp on an ambient light
that may be very different). Shape ? If it is on-camera flash it flattens
the shape of objects. It would have to be somewhat off-axis (and this
depends on where the subject is, and how far from the lens axis).

This effect depends on the ratio between the distance between
the flash-subject and flash-background, AND also on the ambient light.
Used judiciously, it can be a very useful technique.
Flash also sharpens things considerably.
