The study is contiguous with my bedroom. Humidity is a concern in Texas in
the summer, but we keep it at bay with central air conditioning. My A/C
unit in that end of the house is oversized (Never, ever let the HVAC
contractor talk you into a larger unit without engineering analysis!
Embarassing, because I'm an engineer :-() so I must supplement its
dehumidifying efforts with a portable dehumidifier. I monitor the relative
humidity with an Airguide hygrometer on the wall below the thermostat and
try to keep the relative humidity between 45 and 50%. Both rooms have solid
beech floors and the hygroscopic nature of wood tends to moderate humidity
swings. So far I have never had any fungus, though I believe lower humidity
levels are recommended to avoid it. (17 Zuikos, some held as long as 20
years in similar circumstances.) Knock on wood <g>
