My experience with students suggests that what they see is what they
believe is reality.  Try to convince someone today that a dropped ball
(while on a moving object such as a train) moves forward, or that a
heavy object and a light object fall at the same rate.  Too many 
cartoons and manipulated "special effects" have convinced them
otherwise.
