Here's an interesting eBay story for y'all. I was "winning bidder" for
an OM4 that had no reserve and my "winning bid" was very low (below
market perhaps...but maybe not if it indeed John's help, reported
problem was occasional mirror lockup that was reset by changing shutter
speed). Anyway, today I got a message stating "the camera was dropped on
a hard floor and split into pieces, even the glass prism was broken so I
pulled it out of auction."
I don't wish to start a big eBay thread as I know it could get volatile
and off topic so I'll keep this post to one question. Has anyone seen an
OM body die this hard a death from simply falling to the floor? I can
see some damage happening of course, but splitting and broken prism
glass???
I have reviewed the seller's feedback and it appears that his feedback
is very good overall. Interestingly enough the (few) negatives involved
pulling items from auction after close claiming they did not meet
reserve (on no-reserve auctions). I'm not going to sweat it, but I have
asked for a photo of the camera in the current damaged condition and
have offered to buy it anyway (obviously for next to nothing) to use for
parts. It will be interesting to see what kind of reply I get (non so
far).
