Don't worry about the gators. When I lived in Okahumpka, Florida, I had
the second deepest spring in the state in my back yard. There was a
resident gator who acted like he/she wanted to attack, but if you swam
directly at him/her, they would submerge and disappear, only to reappear
far away. It took me almost a year of watching others swim there to get
up the nerve to do it myself. But I was amazingly unapprehensive once I
got used to swimming in the same 200 yard wide pool.
