>The fact that Clinton had a fling in office is of far lesser
importance than
>the fact that overall, he has done a fine job as President.
And, considering that George "Dubyah" Bush has a good chance at
becoming the next president, I'm certain that the following things will
happen in our country:
1) the environment will go to hell in a handbasket. Texas has one of
the worst records on the environment in the country. resulting in at
least:
a) cancellation of the public/private partnership with the auto
industry to develop 80mpg family cars.
b) worsening air and water quality from underfunding EPA
c) increase in extinctions of endangered species (GWB would have
never allowed a spotted owl to stop logging in the NW)
2) Alan Greenspan will be fired, or otherwise removed in favor of a
person more sympathetic to the Republicans in power (yes, I know Alan
is a Republican). resulting in:
a) lower interest rates, which will result in:
i) higher inflation
ii) overheated economy
iii) stock market downturn
iv) recession
Many republicans on the hill strongly believe that the nation's economy
can handle more growth than it does right now. The one thing that I can
give Clinton my approval for has been his hand's off approach to the
Fed. I don't much like him otherwise.
3) A return to deficit spending big time, which will only aggrivate the
items from #2. While Reagan basically outspent the USSR in order to
"defeat" communism, he increased our budget deficit more than any other
president in history.
It's possible that a democratically-lead House can reduce some of these
effects, but not likely.
Be seeing you.
