Interesting, my impression of the OM-1 vs OM-4 finders is just the opposite.
With the same lens (50/1.8) and same screen installed (1-13), my OM-1 finder
image is not only bigger but noticeably brighter than the one in the OM-4. If
I put a 2-13 or 2-4 in my OM-4 then the OM-4 is a *bit* brighter than the
OM-1. I haven't modofied a 2 series screen to put in the OM-1 yet, but I
presume that combination would be brighter still. I find the extra
magnification in the OM-1 finder makes focussing easier, too.
Having said that, the advantages I get from the reduced magnification and
brightness in the OM-4 finder, including that great big LCD display and the
ability to use the 2-series screens, more than make up for the disadvantages.
As far as the finders in the different models, I find the ones in my OM-1,
OM-1n, and OM-2n are about the same. My OM-2S is also about the same as my
OM-4 (I wish it had the dioptric correction, though).
