Well, I hope I've cleared up my reasons for being reluctant to pick that
lens for portraits...:)
You did, for your own idiosyncratic reasons. I chose to own a 3.5 instead of
the usual 1.8 and that was my 50mm lens and standard for many years. It is
still the 50mm of choice when I travel. I don't find the normal a hindrance
for portraits, although it may not be the best choice, I have not
particularly been hampered by it's speed. I recently acquired a used 1.4 and
it is great...for my wife. I still like the 3.5. That's life. My other
favorite is the 40 f2
