mine sure didn't. it was not all that great at or near 200mm.

I'm sure you're right about that, it's been a while since I owned
this lens and I forgot which end of the zoom range had the close focus.
As I said in the original post, I considered the 65-200/4 a fine lens,
but I still think the vivitar lens handles better on a tripod and
having close focus at every focal length is still an advantage.
