If size and weight are important, look for the 35-70/3.5-4.5.
If you really want to buy new, and can't afford the 35-80, your only choice
is the Cosina made 35-70/3.5-4.8
Short of the 35-80, the best from the standpoint of image quality is
reputedly the 35-70/3.6
There is also the 35-70/4, which you can sometimes find cheap. I think it is
a good lens, and somewhat underrated. Or maybe it is just overshadowed by the
35-70/3.6.
