This is common with PC connectors that were used a lot. There is a
small tool that will reform and tighten the tip of the connector on the
flash.

Use the one on the base of the BG2. It will keep the TTL cord hanging
out of the way better. Of course, either one works.

Mine doesn't seem to. The performance is fastest with 4 Cs and 4 AAs
that are new. It will still work if either the Cs or the AAs are
removed.
