The Voigtlander VSL 3 is a late(?) 1970's era 35mm SLR.

It was made in the last years of the Voigtlander name being used by a
German camera company, and during the final years that shook up the German
camera companies foundering from the economic beating they were taking from
the Japanese companies.

Zeiss (whether it was Carl Zeiss, Zeiss Ikon or the Zeiss Foundation itself
I don't know) bought out Voigtlander at some point in the 60's. When the
Zeiss Foundation shut down Zeiss Ikon (1972?), Voigtlander ended up under
Rollei ownership. (Quite ironic as Heidecke cut his teeth at Voigtlander
for a number of years before striking out on his own and founding Rollei
with Franke; both companies were in Braunschweig). Rollei went bankrupt
about 1982 or so and has since reemerged, but without the Voigtlander name.
Ownership of the Voigtlander *name* has since gone to a marketing company
where it has once again reemerged, but on a Japanese camera (made by Cosina).

I believe the VSL 3 dates to Rollei ownership years of Voigtlander and was
among the last 35mm SLR's made by them. It has a kinship to the Rollei
SL35E (and should not be confused with the earlier SL35M or SL35ME). I am
not too surprised about its optics (I know . . . it's heresy on the OM list
. . . there is considerable pedigree behind them).
