Hi,

Yes, I've also had the OM-40 for some 13 years before I bought a (used) 4Ti
this year. Regarding using both bodies in centre averaged metering mode I
guess you're right: there is not much between them (fortunately :)),
however, it's the set of other functions the 4Ti has that makes it a more
attractive camera than the OM-40. Especially the (multi)spot metering system
is a BIG plus, also, I find it very handy to be able to change focusing
screens (I now use a 2-4 in my OM-4Ti), furthermore, using the F280 with the
4Ti is a joy.

Actually, the 4Ti + F280 combo is something I'm still exploring/discovering
a bit as I didn't like to use flashes with the OM-40. When I bought the 4Ti
I could get a good deal on an F280 too, so that's why I bought it, thinking
I might only use it occassionally or somewhere in the future, it actually
soon became a hot favourite of mine for fill flash, so now it has a
permanent spot in my camera bag. Just some two weeks ago or so I shot some
portraits of my girlfriend using the 4Ti + F280 + 100/2 + 81A warming filter
and the results were lovely, not only was the bokeh excellent, but also the
colour toning was really good. I shot the pictures on a sunny day with the
sun to the right of my girlfriend, the 4Ti/F280 did an excellent job in
balancing the natural sunlight with the needed flashlight for illuminating
the left of my girlfriend's face (I will post one of those pictures on my
picture gallery next weekend). My girlfriend has dark eyes and a bronze
skin, so without the fill flash you easily get the situation where her eyes
become almost invisible because of shadows, but with the above combo this
did not happen. I'm actually fine-tuning my skills for taking portraits, and
the above combo really works well, although the 100/2 can be a bit too
"revealing", so I may start using some light diffusor filters (can anyone
recommend me a good one?) too for some shots (although I personally quite
like these razor sharp pictures), the 81A seems to be just good enough for
correcting the "coldness" of the flashlight, I think an 81B will be
overdone.

So, regarding my trusty old OM-40, it's a bit sad to (have to) leave it
unused most of the time, but it's just so much nicer to use the 4Ti than the
OM-40...

I hope these considerations will help you overcome your "dissapointment"
with your recent acquisition of the OM-4Ti :)

Cheers!
Olafo

PS: The OM-40 has one small edge over the OM-4Ti in that it has a Program
mode, whenever you have to hand your camera to someone who doesn't know what
they're doing this is really handy, as they don't have to mess around with
the diafragm then...
