Well, at least on my car insurance once had the stereo stolen and State Farm cut
a check for3x what a paid directly to the place where I bought it. I didn't want
to deal with them again as they did a lousy installation job, so I was able to
get SF to cut me a check for true replacement cost, I'm sure they were happy as
I saved them about $700. Also, it is possible this guy had a replacement cost
rider, in which case the insurance company would want to see actual receipts for
the replacement items in order to correctly reimburse. Such a policy is rather
unusual and expensive, however.
