I have just ordered some Microtek X6EL scanners for the school, and am
trying one at home. It comes with a slide/neg attachment, and seems to work
ok. Although I haven't been satisfied with the results from slides or prints, I
only had about 45 minutes to really try it out.
Can I expect this scanner to perform well once I get the hang of it?
I am quite happy with the quality from the HP 5P, which is now replaced with
a parallel version, and I need/want SCSI.
My first impressions of the Microtek were that the scans were too contrasty
and harsh looking, it seemed slower to preview than the HP, and the glass
was very dirty, and appears to be dirty on the inside surface as well. (kind of
an oily film.)
About the only scanner I've had recent experience with is the UMAX 1200S,
which I found slower than the Microtek, although the photo quality is not bad,
just a little soft.
I'd appreciate any comments on SCSI scanners in the price range of the
Microtek ($250 CDN)
tia.
