Last week Angel mentioned this lens and I responded with an offer to provide
Modern Photography's test numbers. Well, here they are. I only reproduced
some of the results and included numbers for the Zuiko 75-150 for a point of
reference. I know test numbers tell only part of the story about a lens, but
they are useful for reference when test methodology remains constant. First
number is center resolution and second is the edge resolution.
70mm Kiron Zuiko(at 75mm)
F4 54,38 58,32
F8 68,48 65,41
F16 68,48 56,46
100mm
F4 50,44 54,34
F8 70,56 60,38
F16 63,50 60,43
150mm
F4 45,40 48,30
F8 71,45 60,38
F16 56,45 54,38
As far as contrast numbers, the Zuiko had marginally higher numbers at 75mm
with the Kiron posting higher numbers at 100mm and 150mm. For those who have
or remember Mod. Photo. tests, the results for both lenses compare very
favorably with competing lenses of that time. Incidentally, I don't own the
Kiron but do own the Zuiko. I have owned a Kiron 28mmF2.0 for years and it is
a well made lens, but I prefer the Zuiko 28F2.0 for overall performance. The
Kiron ain't bad, though.
