I consider being subscribed by someone else to a list a form of spam. I
happens occasionally within my university's majordomo system, but I think
that is a little different and at least subject to institutional
guidelines. But I don't accept this behavior from commercial sites. I
used this URL to send feedback to ListBot, which sponsors the Camera Direct
list:
http://www.listbot.com/cgi-bin/feedback
I sent them this feedback:
"I was subscribed by someone I do not know and without my permission to the
Camera Direct mailing list. I do not like that and strenuously protest.
Furthermore, the Camera Direct people apparently appropriated the member
list of a group that I am subscribed to in order to subscribe all of that
list's members. It required two emails to complete an unsubscription to
the Camera Direct list which I had not elected to join in the first place.
As far as I am concerned this is spam and I ask you to put a stop to it."
I urge others to send them some such negative feedback. I wouldn't have
minded quite so much if I had been asked if I wished to join. I think it
is wrong to have to unsubscribe an unauthorized list subscription and
shouldn't just be accepted as part of "being on the 'Net."
